In celebration of NAIDOC Week 2025 Noosa First Nations Allies will present a screening of the great Australian movie “High Ground”. A 2020 Australian film directed by Stephen Maxwell based on historical events that took place in Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia, set just after World War 1. It tells of a true story of an historical event in a fictionalised manner but with very close attention to and respect for Aboriginal culture.
In a bid to save the last of his family, Gutjuk, a young Aboriginal man, teams up with ex-solider Travis to track down Baywara, the most dangerous warrior in the Territory, his uncle. The film stars Jacob Junior Nayinggul, Simon Baker and Jack Thompson.
Noosa First Nations Allies is a not-for-profit volunteer-based organisation working to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the Noosa region and beyond in achieving human rights and self-determination, respect for sovereignty and support healthy Country, communities and culture. Our values are truth-telling, listening to understand and healing.
