When Billie Holiday first heard the records of Louis Armstrong and Bessie Smith, rather than copy their vocal delivery Billie interpreted tunes her own way.  It was this and her life experiences that made her a uniquely different vocalist from others.

After a turbulent childhood, Holiday began singing in nightclubs in Harlem where she was heard by producer John Hammond, who liked her voice. Holiday signed a recording contract with Brunswick in 1935. Her collaboration with Teddy Wilson produced the hit: ‘What a Little Moonlight Can Do’ which became an enchanting jazz standard.

A concert to celebrate many of Billie Holiday’s signature songs – tunes that affected the way people viewed the times. Statements about Billie Holiday from other musicians who knew her included: I remember her happiness at times – She was a thrill to play for – She was an improvising Jazz Genius

This concert will feature some of Billie Holiday’s most admired songs.

The Musicians – John Reeves (piano), Paul Williams (Saxophone & Clarinet), Paul Hendon (Saxophone & Clarinet), John Conley (String Bass), Rod Andrew (Percussion) and June Garber’s evocative vocals, support the passionate, compelling story of this extraordinary jazz musician.

This is a very special event brought to you by the Noosa Heads Jazz Club honoring the captivating legacy of Billie Holiday.

This concert will be one of our most popular and we suggest that you book early.

Sit back, listen and enjoy the songs that defined the incandescent life of Billie Holiday!
