Its National Silent Film day on September 29th and the Majestic Theatre Pomona will be celebrating early on the 26th September so come and celebrate with us. This day raises awareness of film preservation and visual story telling. The Silent Era spans roughly from 1889 to 1930 before synchronized soundtracks became standard.
We’ve chosen “The General” purported as “the greatest train movie ever made”. “The General” stars Buster Keaton, Marion Mack and Glen Cavander. Keaton also co-directed it along with Clyde Bruckman.
The General was inspired by the Great Locomotive Chase, a true story of an event that occurred during the American Civil War. The story was adapted from the 1889 memoir The Great Locomotive Chase by William Pittenger.
Synopsis – Johnnie loves his train (“The General”) and Annabelle Lee. When the Civil War begins he is turned down for service because he’s more valuable as an engineer. Annabelle thinks it’s because he’s a coward. Union spies capture The General with Annabelle on board. Johnnie must rescue both his loves.
No need to book. Get your tickets at the door. Doors and bar open at 11am offering tea, coffee, snacks and refreshments. Film screens at 12 noon.
